Answer: It has nothing to do with quitting refined sugars. That was more a parenting decision than a nutritional or ethical one.
Answer: No, we have not stopped shopping at Whole Foods. As far as grocery stores go, we feel like it is the least of the evils at this point, and we have to get food from somewhere.
We are trying to reduce our dependence on food stores though– we visit the local farmers market every Saturday where we can get onions, strawberries, oranges, tomatoes, cornmeal and eggs (or other stuff, depending on the season…that’s just what we’re getting now). We would like to join a CSA , too– although it’s a pretty big financial commitment, and involves quite a bit of driving on our part. I’ve also just this week learned of a few local farms we can get meat from– and we’re eating less meat in general anyway. ( www.eatwild.com ) We also hope to get a garden in the ground this spring…as soon as we get the stuff together.

We had an awesome farmer’s market in Missouri. I really miss it. They even sold meat there. Good times. And I’d like to hear how the garden goes when it goes.
